4-Week Optometry Training Training Program
Whether you aspire to serve in a clinic, pursue further education, or make a difference in underprivileged communities this training is your foundation.

About the Program
Our 4-week Optometry training Program is designed to transition students from academic learning to clinical competence. Under the guidance of experienced ophthalmologists and optometrists, interns will actively engage in patient care, diagnostics, and treatment planning.
This training is ideal for fresh graduates, third-year and final-year optometry students aiming to build their clinical skills and professional confidence.
- • Strengthen clinical decision-making and refraction accuracy
- • Gain expertise in slit lamp examinations and diagnostic tools
- • Perform visual field testing and interpret findings
- • Understand contact lens fitting and dispensing procedures
- • Participate in community eye care initiatives
- • Apply patient interaction and communication skills
- • Develop case study documentation and clinical reporting techniques
Educational Plan
Basic Clinical Skills & Refraction
- History taking and visual acuity (VA) assessment - Preliminary eye tests and patient interaction - Refraction techniques (objective and subjective) - Educating patients on refractive errors - Lens recommendation: Single vision, bifocals, progressives - Slit-lamp examination basics - Tonometry (IOP measurement) - Identifying cases requiring referral (e.g., cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy)
Corneal Evaluation & Topography
- Clinical evaluation and diagnostic testing of the cornea - Identification and documentation of common corneal conditions - Use of corneal topography for detecting: • Keratoconus and its progression • Post-refractive surgery ectasia - Irregular astigmatism - Use of Placido-based and Scheimpflug imaging systems - Integration of diagnostic findings into patient management and referral decisions
Posterior Segment & Imaging
- Fundus examination techniques - OCT imaging and interpretation - A-Scan biometry procedures - B-Scan ultrasound evaluation and clinical correlation - Optical biometry and measurement for IOL calculation - Case reviews and clinical presentations - Supervisor feedback and evaluation
Contact Lens Fitting & Management
- Theoretical understanding of contact lenses - Pre-fitting patient evaluation - Soft contact lens fitting and follow-up care - Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lens fitting techniques - Managing contact lens-related complications - Introduction to specialty lenses (e.g., toric, multifocal, keratoconus lenses) - Final case discussions and performance review
Training Comprehensive Guide:
To provide structured, supervised, and hands-on clinical exposure to optometry students and interns, preparing them for independent professional practice in vision care.
Program Structure
Duration: 4 Weeks Clinical Rotations May Include: - Refraction - Contact Lenses - Low Vision Rehabilitation - Pediatric Optometry - Retina & Posterior Segment - Cornea & Anterior Segment - General OPD Exposure
Training Facility Requirement
- Active Outpatient Department (OPD) with steady patient flow - Dedicated, well-equipped examination rooms - Visual Acuity Charts (Snellen, LogMAR) - Autorefractor - Trial Lens Set and Trial Frame - Slit Lamp Biomicroscope - Tonometer (Non-contact or Applanation) - Keratometer / Corneal Topographer - OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) - Fundus Camera - Perimetry and Biometry Devices (if available)
Supervision & Mentorship
- Each intern will be assigned a qualified clinical supervisor - Mentors are licensed optometrists or ophthalmologists Areas of supervised practice include: - Refraction and Retinoscopy - Diagnostic Imaging - Contact Lens Fitting - Patient Education and Counseling Interns receive regular feedback and performance evaluations
International Exposure Sessions
To enhance the learning experience, the training program includes exclusive online sessions with internationally renowned optometrists, ophthalmologists and vision care experts. These interactive sessions aim to bridge the gap between local training and international advancements, giving interns a well-rounded and forward-thinking clinical perspective.
